According to the information compiled by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK) from motor land vehicle statistics, the number of vehicles registered in traffic increased by 6.7 percent as of the end of June this year compared to the same month of the previous year, rising from 32 million 366 thousand 546 to 34 million 545 thousand 132.

51.7 percent of the vehicles in question were automobiles, 21.5 percent were motorcycles, 14.4 percent were pickup trucks, 6.8 percent were tractors, 3.1 percent were trucks, 1.6 percent were minibuses, 0.6 percent were buses and 0.3 percent were special purpose vehicles.

Among the 194 thousand 740 vehicles registered to traffic in June this year, motorcycles ranked first with 49.4 percent, and automobiles ranked second with 37.8 percent.

THE SHARE OF GASOLINE VEHICLES INCREASED FROM 24.4 PERCENT TO 31 PERCENT

The ratio of gasoline vehicles among automobiles was recorded as 24.4 percent as of 2020. The rate in question reached 31 percent at the end of June this year.

While the number of gasoline cars was 3 million 201 thousand 894 in 2020, it increased to 5 million 546 thousand 513 by the end of June 2026.

While the number of diesel cars increased from 5 million 14 thousand 356 to 5 million 738 thousand 826 in the said period, its share in total cars decreased from 38.3 percent to 32.1 percent. The number of LPG cars also increased from 4 million 810 thousand 18 to 5 million 254 thousand 245 during the said periods, but the share of these vehicles in total cars decreased from 36.7 percent to 29.4 percent.

The number of hybrid cars was 33 thousand 690 in 2020. This number increased to 846 thousand 813 by the end of June 2026, and its share in total automobiles increased from 0.3 percent to 4.7 percent.

The mass introduction of electric cars into traffic in Türkiye and the recording of widespread usage data began in 2011. That year, only 24 electric vehicles were registered in the country.

While the number in question was 2 thousand 797 in 2020, it increased to 445 thousand 939 at the end of June. The share of electric vehicles in total automobiles increased from 0.1 percent in 2022 to 2.5 percent at the end of June this year.
