The first trailer of Avengers Doomsdayreleased this Monday by Marvel and Disney, promises darkness, lots of action, countless superheroes and a new and powerful masked enemy, Doctor Doom (Robert Downey Jr, after leaving Iron Man behind).
Thor (Chris Hemosworth) tries to bring together the largest number of superheroes in the history of cinema to combat an enemy so powerful that to defeat him they will need “a miracle,” as the god of Thunder recognizes. In this first and very dark trailer you can see the return of Chris Evans as Captain America, something that had already been advanced in one of the short videos that Marvel studios have been releasing in recent months, just to introduce characters.
They did it for Captain America and previously for Thor; King M’Baku (M’Baku) of Wakanda, along with Shuri/Black Panther (Letitia Wright) and The Thing (Ebon Moss-Bachrach) or the X-Men, specifically Charles Xavier (Patrick Stewart), Magneto (Ian Mckellen) and Scott Summers/Cyclops (James Marsdem).
Now, in the first trailer for the film you can see Mister Fantastic (Pedro Pascal), Ant-Man (Paul Rudd), Yelena Belova (Florence Pugh), Anthony Mackie’s Captain America, the Invisible Woman (Vanessa Kirby), Xu Shang-Chi (Simu Liu), Loki (Tom Hiddleston), or Cyclops, Charles Xavier and Magneto.
Meanwhile, Thor explains the situation: “Something is coming, something we may not be able to avoid. Before the day is over we will face an inconceivable decision.” “I have met many warriors in my life, warriors stronger than all of us combined. And they died, they died facing threats and enemies that instilled less fear in me than this one. All their sacrifices will have been in vain if we do not stay united,” says Thor, who thus establishes himself as the spiritual leader of this enormous group of superheroes.
Captain America, even without his suit, easily attracts Thor’s hammer
And in this first preview of the film, which will hit theaters around the world on December 18, Thor is seen trying to confront an undaunted Doctor Doom or Doctor Death, who seems immune to the powers of the Asgardian king.
A character played by Downey Jr, who thus returns to the Avengers after the Iron Man he gave life to in eight films, died at the end of Endgame‘ (2019). The trailer closes with the first meeting between Thor and Steve Rogers, who hung up his Captain America suit after the Avengers defeated Thanos and decided to return to the past to resume his relationship with Peggy Carter. Captain America, even without his suit, easily attracts Thor’s hammer, a scene interrupted by the countdown to the premiere.
The film, directed by Anthony and Joe Russo, can be seen in theaters certified as Infinity Vision, a system that “guarantees an exceptional cinematographic experience thanks to large-format screens, bright images and outstanding sound quality,” as Disney explained in a statement.
The film also stars Wyatt Russell, Channing Tatum, Joseph Quinn, Sebastian Stan, David Harbour, Lewis Pullman, Kelsey Grammer, Kathryn Newton, Danny Ramirez, Winston Duke, Alan Cumming, Hannah John-Kamen, Rebecca Romijn, Mabel Cadena and Tenoch Huerta Mejía.
