Long live Monsieur Dior’s Medallion

In the Dior universe, nothing is coincidental. Every stroke, symbol, detail—no matter how small—contains a great story. When we talk about the Dior medallion, we are not referring to a jewel itself, but to that elegant oval backrest that appears on chairs and decorative details from the universe of the French maison. The design arose in the French court of the 18th century, under the reign of Louis XVI, the Sun King; the golden age of sophisticated salons and baroque classicism.

Medallion chairs were common in the large rooms of the palace of Versailles. Centuries later, Christian Dior fell in love with its design and wanted to replicate it. It was at the show of his first collection, in 1947, when he made his guests sit in the legendary chairs. At that time, he was one of the few designers who understood fashion as a 360º experience; For Dior everything had to convey the same spirit, from the clothes to the most insignificant poster.

Since then, the oval shape has become a silent Dior signature that appears again and again. Now, Jonathan Anderson has reinterpreted that legacy and elevated it with a delicate bow in relief. Conceived as an everyday essential, the new Médaillon Flap bag features a closure decorated with this iconic motif. Integrated into the handle, it modulates its height easily. In Dior Oblique jacquard or grained leather, this refined style – available in small or medium sizes from April – includes a removable interior toiletry bag and is perfect for any occasion
